Opening Comments

Karl welcomed everyone. Introductions were made because there were some new people in attendance.

News from National

Insurance
Karl announced that the insurance rebate program has been discontinued. The biggest impact will be on track events. Fees will need to be raised to participants to cover the additional cost.

Newsletter/Website Conference
Lucetta attended the Conference but wasn’t at the Board meeting. Miki did not attend the Conference.

Oktoberfest 02
National reports 385 registered for this year’s O’fest in Colorado.

Raffle 2002
The raffle solicitation was sent April 29th. There had been some concern that some didn’t get the solicitation but Karl asked and everyone at the Board meeting had received theirs. The raffle cars will be M3 Coupes this year.

Member Survey

Ken Hill said he would mail the survey results to everyone as he forgot to bring them to the Board meeting.

Tee-Shirts

Lance reported that he has sold about 130 of the 200 shirts.

General Meetings and Events

Hornet Race
Ninety people showed up for the race. Joni Candey broke her car in the preliminaries. A heroic effort to get it repaired in time for the race fell short. Wes Hill started towards the back of a 32-car pack and worked his way up to sixth.

Mini Meeting
David reported that about 50 people attended the meeting at Northwest Mini. It was simple with no food or drink. Everyone enjoyed the cars.

SAE/WWU Visit
Ken Hill reported that 32 members have registered for the event. The tour will be leaving Alderwood Mall at 8:00 AM this coming Saturday, June 8th.

RMS at Carb Connection
Karl reported that the owner of RMS (Race Marque Systems), Osh Minelian, will be visiting our area and will make a presentation to the Club. The event will be at Carburetor and Fuel Injection Connection in Kirkland on June 15th. Osh will be tuning John Carpenter’s gonzo Z3 on the dyno.

Washington Wine Tour
Karl has pre-driven the course. All is set to go. The event is on June 22nd and 23rd and is full.

Detail Session
Tom has made the arrangements with Exeter Garage, who will be the host. Twenty-seven members have confirmed. Exeter has room for 70. A cruiser club may be invited to fill the event up if we need more.

Vintage Races at Pacific Raceways
Lucetta wasn’t present to report on the Corral.

Portland Historic Races
No one had any news about the event at PIR.

Wine Tasting
Kevin is going to visit Esquins in person to try and set a date in August or September.

02 Tech Session
Ken Wear said the 02 SIG Tech Session on April 13th was a success. Eighteen people attended. The host was GP Automotive.

Springfest
The Springfest on May 18th had over 120 02s participate.

02 Fest
Ken Wear wasn’t at the meeting to report on the status of the 02 Fest. It was noted that the SIG’s on-line registration form is up.

E30 SIG Picnic
Lance said that the E30 SIG picnic will be held at Newcastle Beach Park, right off I-405. There are already 61 E30s registered. The $300 donation for food from Auburn Foreign Car won’t be sufficient to feed this big of a group. Lance plans to ask for donations. Non-E30 owners are invited to attend. Two to three tee-shirts will be given away as “door” prizes.

Banquet
There was a discussion of ways to improve participation in the banquet. All agreed that a lower price would probably help. Kevin would like to put the event later in the year. The auction hasn’t had much energy. A subcommittee including Kevin, Jacqueline, David and Doug was set up to come back to the Board with recommendations.

Tours/Rallys
Ken Olson wasn’t at the meeting due to his participation in the College Planning Classic Rally. Doug agreed to organize a tour using an old Porsche Club route. It goes from Monroe to Mt. Vernon. The end of the rally is at a karting track. The event was set for August 10th.

Concours d’Elegance
Lance reported that we are back at Marymoor Park due to the cancellation of the Womad Festival. This alleviates the space constraints of Bannerwood Park. We will have the field for the entire day. Lance needs volunteers to help. We will have displays of BMW bikes, Minis and vintage BMWs. There may even be a BMW radial airplane engine.

The evening of the Concours, Lance has planned a dinner at King Ludwig’s Restuaurant, a half mile south of Northgate. Pre-registration won’t be necessary. The dinner won’t be announced until the Concours.

European Car Show
A member of the Porsche Club is organizing a European Car Show to be held September 14th at Ste. Michelle Winery. He is looking for 150 cars and would like 50 each from three car clubs. Lance has advised him to invite more clubs and expect fewer from each club. This is especially important because he wants more vintage cars. The entry fee will likely be $20 to $30. The winery hopes to sell wine and a buffet lunch. At an expected cost of $50 for lunch, we hope they don’t expect to sell many!

Yale’s Column in Roundel

Yale Rachlin slammed Griot’s Garage in his most recent Roundel column. Quite a number of chapter members have written to Satch to defend Griot’s.

Treasurer’s Report

Tom said we have a balance of $17,838.44 in the checking account and an additional $6,254.54 in the CD.

Tom, Greg and David will take a look at the checks we’re getting from national. It doesn’t look like we are getting the extra amount we are supposed to get for former ACA members.

We are having a dispute with Remax for the number of months they wanted to advertise. The $1,400 sponsorship check from BMW Seattle has been received. We also got a number of door prizes.

Tom will prepare a draft written agreement for Zundfolge advertisers.

Web Site

Miki reported that a professional photographer has offered to supply event photos. The server still sucks but Dale is working on it. We discussed subsidizing a high speed Internet connection for Miki. She will check costs and get back to us.

Zundfolge

The deadline for the July issue was last Tuesday, June 4th. Lucetta was not present.

Public Address System

Rick brought several handouts related to potential PA systems the Club might buy. Many of the events are now so large as to require a PA system for everyone to hear. There was a fairly long discussion of the possibilities and costs. The system Rick brought was to be tested in the parking lot after the meeting and this weekend at the track.

Roster/Membership

Greg reported that we have 2,957 members, including 253 associate members. We have 72 new members this month

Track Events

The June 9th event, this coming weekend, has been full for a long time with 35 on the waiting list. The July 14th event has 45 registrations and will fill fairly soon.

Jacqueline said it looked like track events will break even or a little better despite the higher insurance fees. No firm decision has been made on how to treat Minis at our events but it looks like they will not be given preferential treatment.

An inventory of cones and other equipment will be made. We need to replace most of the cones at Bremerton. Jacqueline will be asking the other clubs that use our cones to contribute to the replacement fund. A new lock will also be put on our trailer at Bremerton.

IRDC will be building new corner worker stations at Turns 2 and 8 at Pacific Raceways. They would like contributions from the various marque clubs. The Board decided to raise the August 3rd event fee to $115 and contribute $200 to IRDC.

Roundabout

Rick-another good result for Kahn Team Racing.

Ken Hill-will be attending Bobby Orr’s Stunt Driving School in LA.

Lance-scored second place in EIP at the May race at Pacific Raceways.

Greg Hodder-his car got in a fight with a garbage truck and lost.

Reid-changing brakes on his car.

Greg Mierz-ran a tie rod out to Monroe to help Joni in the Hornet race, but it was in vain.

Jennifer-just moved here from DC and loves it.

Doug-said a group of compulsive cleaners were putting together a web site with detailing techniques.

David-reported renewing his previously extensive history of speeding tickets.

Karl-has brochures for Total BMW Magazine. He’s also frustrated to be watching everyone else race.

The meeting was adjourned at about 9:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
David Lightfoot
Secretary
