Opening
Comments
Karl welcomed everyone. We then went around the table and introduced
ourselves.
National
Membership Rewards Program
Karl announced that the Membership Rewards Program that offers discounts
to BMW CCA members buying new or CPO cars from dealers has been extended
to 2002. Even better, the Program now includes M cars. Minis are not
part of the Program.
Newsletter/Website Congress
National is putting on a meeting for all newsletter editors and webmeisters
on May 25 and 26 in Tucson. There will be separate programs for the
two functions. Two persons from each chapter are allowed to attend at
BMW CCA expense. The procedure is for each individual to pay for their
expenses and then bill national.
Member Survey
Lance reported that about 200 responses have been received; about 75%
of them are from members completing the surveys online. Lance will compile
the results into a report. We are getting some good comments. There are
a number of questions being asked on the surveys that Board members will
need to respond to.
Tee Shirts
Lance reported that not much progress has been made. Jill Skeels is tweaking
the design to add more color. The timeframe is sliding a little.
Model Contact List
Lance is working on a list of members to act as resources for various
models. He is gathering photos and short bios on each contact for a Zundfolge
article. Wes Hill has been added as a contact for body work questions.
Board Roster
Prior to the meeting, Karl sent out a draft list of Board members and
their contact information. Karl has received a good response and has revised
the roster. He passed out a revised listing at the meeting.
Master Calendar
David prepared a working calendar to be used by the Board for planning
purposes. Ken Olson added three rallys. The group discussed a possible
trip to Western Washington University to visit the Viking Program, which
develops interesting vehicles.
Jacqueline said that the Instructor Clinic in February may have to be
moved. She also said that all of the Spokane track dates are likely to
change.
Ken Wear noted there would be lots of 02 events this year.
We are trying to get a tour of the Fikse Wheel facility in April or May.
Jacqueline is working on a Club meeting with Jason Fiorito, general manager
of Pacific Raceways (formerly SIR).
The Member Appreciation meeting was tentatively scheduled for March 30th.
Rick Gulstrom will be the event chairman.
The Master Calendar will be updated monthly.
Automobilia Meeting
David reported on the Automobilia meeting held on December 8th. He
presented a handout on the event. It was a success and enjoyed by all
in attendance. It is a possible annual event.
02 SIG Events
Ken Wear reported on plans by the 02 Special Interest Group for celebrating
the year 2002. There will be a driving tour the evening of February
2nd (02/02/2002). On February 21 the group will be having their annual
dinner.
The 02 SIG's biggest event will be tied into our annual Concours d'Elegance.
On July 27th, Saturday, the 02 SIG will host a car show in a city park
in North Bend. This will be the day before the Club's Concours. As a
lot of out-of-town guests are expected, this will make it easy to make
a weekend of it. The 02 SIG will pay the rental for the park but the
city is asking for insurance coverage. Ken asked whether the Club could
provide this coverage.
The Board noted that the event must be a chapter event for coverage
but that not everyone attending needs to be a chapter member. There
will be no financial risk to the chapter. Also, being a non-driving
event, there is little other risk. The Board approved co-sponsorship
of the event with Ken Wear and the 02 SIG being in charge of the event.
E30 M3 Tech Session
Lance reported on the planned E30 M3 Tech Session. It will be held
on February 16th at Auburn Foreign Car. A promotional article will be
in the January Zundfolge. The event will be held in the afternoon. After
the Tech Session is completed, the group will be invited to caravan
to Bison Creek Pizza in Burien for a Video Night featuring rare European
videos of DTM racing during the heyday of the E30 M3.
VRM Meeting
Lance reported that Bill Spornitz is putting together a meeting at
Vintage Racing Motors, tentatively scheduled for March 16th. There will
be an article in the next Zundfolge. It has been two years since the
last meeting at VRM.
Karting Enduro
Michael Lord began putting together a Karing Enduro at Sykarts in Tukwila.
He has had to bow out due to other commitments. Karl is looking for
a new chairperson for the event.
Web Site
Web Chairman Kurt Lieber wasn't present. The new web site was to be
up January 1st but it wasn't up as of the meeting. No one was sure of
the schedule. Karl did say that he knew that Kurt and Dale Beuning are
working on the new site. Lance brought a topic summary from the web
site's bulletin board.
Zundfolge
Lucetta said that the deadline for the February issue was next Tuesday,
January 8th. She said that the January issue would be late due to late
submissions in December. The schedule, which involves six other parties,
was thrown off.
Lucetta asked that all authors include a title for their articles and
a byline. She expressed concern about Club liability for the Model Contacts
List. Other Board members were unconcerned as CCA National has had Tech
Tip Reps for years.
Jim Millet will be handling collections from Zundfolge advertisers. A
contract for advertisers is being considered. Lance is going to ask the
other chapter presidents what their chapters have done.
Roster/Membership
Greg provided a handout with our current membership statistics. We have
2,707 members, including 242 associates. The last mailing list included
2,592 parties, including 127 to other chapters, advertisers and national
staff and board.
Greg has two members discussing taking over his position when he retires
at the end of 2002. Both use Access professionally and should be able
to handle the job.
Rick picked up his first list of mailing labels. Rick also will be picking
up the mail from the Club post office box in the future.
Driving Schools
Jacqueline said that she was working on putting the Driving School policies,
procedures and FAQs on the new web site.
We have confirmed dates for Pacific Raceways (SIR) for 2002 but don't
have a contract yet. Thus, we have not put a deposit down.
The next track event will be the Instructors' Clinic. The schedule calls
for a classroom session on one day and the on-track session on the following
day.
Banquet
Kevin reported that we have 41 members who took advantage of the discount
for registering before December 31st. A vegetarian selection has been
added to the menu choices.
A list of potential auction donors was passed around and those in attendance
were asked to put their name by those they would be contacting. Kevin
asked for $250 for printing programs. Ken Olsen moved that the Board authorize
up to $250 for this purpose. The motion was seconded and passed.
Kevin is looking into the possibility of accepting credit cards. He also
asked for volunteers to help set up the auction.
Tours/Rallies
Ken Olson set April 20th as the date for the Spring Rally. (Subsequently
changed to April 27th.) This will be similar to last year's successful
half-day rally.
We will also be promoting participation in the Seattle Classic Rally,
which is a multi-day rally benefiting College Planning Network. The fall
rally was tentatively set for November 16th and 17th.
Ken will also be asking for help in planning some tours. The Wine Tour
to the Yakima Valley was popular and will likely be repeated.
Concours d'Elegance
Lance reported that Bill Spornitz is working on the contract for Robinswood
Park with the City of Bellevue. The owner of a newly restored Isetta in
Oak Harbor has already inquired about participation!
Treasurer's Report
Tom reported we have $38,286 in the treasury. This is unusually high
since we have not paid for our track dates yet. In the past, we have made
a substantial deposit to hold our track dates for the following year.
Tom sent out budgetary information to Board members but has received
no responses.
Karl and Lance will be meeting with John Vance, the new general manager
at BMW Seattle, to talk about Club support from the dealership.
Roundabout
- Ken
Hill-Laguna Seca has bumped us from their calendar completely for 2002.
Ken may try to get a date at Sears Point. Ken raised a question about
insurance and our affiliation with ICSSC (Conference). It was agreed
this was a non-issue. He also gave out free three-ring binders.
- Greg-Brought
a full-page, color ad from USA Today featuring the 2002.
- Walt-The
lap timing program for the Palm Pilot he mentioned last month has been
upgraded so that lap times can be plotted in Excel. The software is
$25.
- Evie-She's
having problems with her home computer. Tom Cox offered to help.
- Lucetta-Wants
to get rid of some old paperwork. She is also concerned about the handoff
of articles from the Zundfolge to the web site.
- Kevin-Needs
the Club logo for the banquet program. Lance can provide it.
- Lance-The
E30 M3 Lance sold is being put up for sale by the current owner. Lance
has been given right-of-first-refusal. Lance is being tempted; we feel
his pain.
- Karl-Asked
if the new roster information is correct.
- The
meeting was adjourned at 8:43 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
David Lightfoot
Secretary
