BMW ACA Puget Sound Region
Monthly Board Meeting
July 5th, 2000
Vice President, Lance Richert, called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the Mercer Island Community Center.
Present at the meeting:
Lance Richert Evie Mercer David Lightfoot Bill Spornitz
Karl Seeger Jacqueline Kahn Lucetta Lightfoot Tom Cox
Chris Linder Bill Linder Greg Mierz Steve Niver
Jim Millet Ken Hill Cecilia Hill
Opening Comments:
Due to health reasons, effective today, Roger Wales has resigned as President. Lance Richert will take over the position of President. The position of Vice President will be tabled for now.
The Mercer Island Community Center location was well received by the Board members, and the August Board meeting will be held at this same location August 2nd, 2000.
ACA/CCA Merger Issues:
Logo redesign Jill will work on it (per David Lightfoot).
Bylaws Lucetta Lightfoot reported the committee agrees with the Board to keep the word REGION in our name, rather than CHAPTER. Lucetta is working with Tom Nast and the committee on changes to the Bylaws. The changes are in Word format on Lucettas computer, and she will email it to the Board members. Changes to the Bylaws need to be approved by the general membership. New Bylaws will be posted on the Web site and mailed to any interested parties. There is confusion on renewing dual memberships, so Keith will be asked for clarification on this issue. Roger Wales has suggested Jim Millet be chairman of the Transition Committee. Jim has accepted.
General Meetings:
IRDC Race on August 6th our Club Car Corral will be promoted at the Concours July 22nd and at the Lapping Day at SIR July 23rd.
New Members Meeting follow up The weather was not good, there was a light crowd. It was suggested the name of the event be changed to General Member Meeting and that it be held in January, prior to the Spring events, as a kick-off for the upcoming season. It was also noted the location was not appealing.
30th Anniversary Celebration Great event! 60-65 people attended.
E30 M3 Tech Session Awesome! There were 25 E30 M3s, including two from Oregon, and several from other areas out of town. Four people signed up as new members.
Vintage Race Club Car Corral All tickets were sold. We had a great location and would like to have that location again next year. A lot of member packets were given out (approx. 20-25).
Charity Coordinator Jacqueline reported there are two ladies interested. They will be invited to the next Board meeting to talk about what we have for ideas for next year.
Track and Driving Schools:
There are lots of registrations for July and August. Will confirm next week. Porsche Club has invited Intermediate and Advanced drivers of BMW ACA to join their driving events. There is an article in the new magazine announcing this invitation. Our magazine track calendar will show the Alfa Club driving dates for our members to be able to go to other driving events.
Ken Hill reported on the Laguna Seca driving event - There was $9410 in registration fees and expenses were $8276. There is about $1100 balance. It was a fun event. The Laguna Seca track people were happy with our club. Ken also reported there may be a SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) tour event in September, at no cost to participants.
Web Site:
It looks great. Just need more personal cars from members to display.
Concours:
Our Web site has the registration. It is all coming together. Trophies are all set, and the tents are rented. Chris snagged more volunteer judges from those present at the meeting.
Small sandwiches will be ordered to provide to workers and to sell to those attending.
For $5 we can get a sandwich, chips, coke and cookie. Greg M. will forward the email address for the Seattle Times Motorsports activities calendar. He will also do an email to the members reminding them of the event. Bill S. will put together registration packets.
Treasurer Report:
We have money. Projected cash will be around $20,000 in our account when we transfer over to CCA. Roger will bill CCA for the expenses related to the vote.
Roster/Membership:
Greg M. will ask Keith for membership database of CCA Western Washington members. We have over 1200 members at this time in ACA. And we have about 450 email addresses. We will be accepting ACA memberships up to the date of the merger. We need three or four "return address stamps" with our old address to last us for a few months, since we are out of printed envelopes. Bill S. will take care of this.
Zundfolge:
Printing costs are up at this time due to promotional events, and printing more magazines. There is an early deadline for the August magazine.
Banquet:
Rick met someone at the New Members meeting who will forward a contact to him regarding the Casino Night possibility for the banquet.
Tours/Karting/Rally:
Wine tour was great! Saw a rattlesnake, & got reservations at a restaurant with no problems. Columbia Crest gave us the Red Carpet treatment. The weather was good. Yakima Valley was fun to drive around. Tom Williams will be writing an article for the August magazine. The August 19th tour is all set to go. Octoberfest Northwest is now BMW Fest Northwest. It will be a three-day tour. There will be Web page information coming and an article in the August magazine. Karl may set up a meeting time on Saturday for those who want to convey that day rather than leave on Friday. He will also be sure to advertise we can have a slower speed group driving slower than the Canadians.
Roundabout:
Jim pass.
Tom pass.
Greg Renewals taken at events need to go to Lance so it gets into the system and folks get their magazines in a timely manner.
Steve On the Ireland trip I saw lots of BMWs.
Chris Pass.
Bill L. Pass.
Bill S. Concours registration must be postmarked by July 15th to get pre-registration fee of $15. There was no registration form in last magazine so we will cut them some slack. Roger sounded good on the phone when I talked to him recently.
Allan Dunn Allan stopped by looking for a PCA Board meeting. He asked us how many cars we think would join their events. He asked us to come out to their driving events. Racecars, if approved by the BMW Club, will be allowed by PCA at their events.
Ken Is anyone working with Portland ACA Club to encourage them to join CCA? Lance will contact their new President and send him back issues of our magazine to show him what we went through.
David BMW press site award for Engineering including "BMW street carver" (skate board?) that uses suspension components from 5 series.
Lucetta Has more comp cards. SOVERN invitation for a Hill Climb, will mention it in Zundfolge.
Evie Blast weekend at the Historic Races. Taking passengers helped me talk my way around the track during parade lapping.
Karl Apologizing for not giving the Club the commitment he feels the club deserves in tours. With racing I feel I am not giving all I should.
Lance Can take Karting to someone who does that more. Took Devin out on the track for the first time during the parade lapping.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:59 pm.
