Opening Comments:

The next meeting will be February 3rd at Bill Spornitz’s home.

(On January 14th the Board changed the meeting date to be Tuesday, February 1st at Roger Wales’ home.)

The December Board minutes were approved. Discussion held about changing the approval procedure for Board Minutes to allow for a quicker Web Site posting. It was decided the secretary would send out a draft of the minutes to the Board members via e-mail, and each Board member will send any corrections to the secretary within 10 days after the draft is distributed. A final draft will be sent to the Board for their approval. The approved minutes will then be posted on the Web Site as soon as possible. Hard copies of the approved minutes will be brought to the next Board meeting for general members.

Roger requested a donation of $250 to Team Seattle be made from the general fund. Motion made, seconded, and passed by the Board.

General Meetings:

CarTender will host a Ladies Tech Session. Lucetta will check on the date, possibly May 13th.

Griot’s Garage open house will be February 12th at 9:00 AM.

Vintage Racing Motors open house will be March 18th.

Facility suggestions were: the Renton facility we used last year, Redhook Brewery in Woodinville, and Crazy Red Head in Redmond.

ACA/CCA meeting with Keith Wollenberg possibly March 12th, mid-day. Roger will check with Keith’s schedule and availability of the Becker classroom.

Improvement Ideas:

Club Merchandise – on hold.

Advertising Coordinator – Lucetta Lightfoot working on it.

Volunteer Coordinator – Jacqueline’s article was bumped from current issue of Zundfolge. Will be in next issue.

Golf Outing – Golf committee’s article will be in next issue.

Web Page Status:

Updates made by Jill. More coming next month by Dale. Steve asked if we had a counter on the web site. Not available at this time. We know the site is being used by the number of on-line information requests we have received. Steve also requested we keep the site current by removing old schedules. Jill requested more pictures of club member’s cars be submitted. Bill reported hearing nice compliments of our web page from out of town friends. We should call it the "web meister" rather than web master.

Banquet:

Rick drove an M5.

He commented on how much we were laughing and having fun at the meeting and reminded us to remember this is the purpose of volunteering our time to this car club.

January issue of Zundfolge mentioned wrong day (Friday) instead of Saturday for the banquet. Registrations have been slow, but expect it will pick up now.

Through e-mail we can personally invite members to attend. Encouraged us to invite non-club members to attend.

Have a credit card machine available for the auction – thank you Chris!

Lance received confirmation from Ed Laggart to do the auctioneering.

Lucetta will handle decorations.

Donations still needed. Lance will check with Griot’s. Rick will check with StonGard.

Set-up time will be 4:00 PM.

Speaker Phil Smart has asked us to make a donation to Children’s Hospital in lieu of his honorarium.

Article in Zundfolge encourages us to bring can food items to donate to NorthWest Food Drive.

Lucetta and Evie will meet with Rick to write up auction bid sheets.

Concours:

Will change Web page to read Concours will be July 22nd, not the last Saturday in July.

Featured car will be E30 M3.

Don Becker will help with printing poster. Need to get posters out early. Bill Linder will also help with graphics.

Before event will have E30 M3 tech session to generate interest in getting members to bring their car to concours.

At Vintage Racing July 4th weekend, encourage participation for upcoming concours.

Tours/ Karting/Rally:

Karl reported the May Wine Tour is still tentatively scheduled for May 20 –21st.

Karting event needs down payment in February.

Member Richard Weixler has offered to put together novice rally on Olympic Peninsula.

Discussion on what should be length of rally between 2-3-4 hours long. Suggested to make it 3 hours.

Date needs to be set for springtime.

Track:

Ken Hill reported confusion over track date in September at Bremerton. Jacqueline had cancelled but the port had no record of cancellation. Roger said we will pay for it if we are committed.

Laguna Seca track available May 30th, Tuesday. Confirmation made. Same arrangements as last year using the van to transport tires and parts. Will have a wrecker there if needed. 60 spots are available. Can include Vancouver, B.C. and Portland clubs.

Cost will be about $150 with an additional fee for extra driver in same car. Motion made and passed to do it. Ken and Wes will do arrangements including hotel block of rooms.

Roster/Membership:

Greg reported approximately 980 members. Roger questioned this figure.

Has e-mail bulk mailing list of about 345. It was suggested we use this as a reminder to general members before events occur.

Lance has put comp card display at BMW Northwest. He continues to pick up mail at Post Office box. He will stay on committee to handle these chores.

Newsletter:

David distributed 1999 summary for 11 issues.

January issue mailed 1/06/00 instead of 1/04/00 due to holiday schedule.

This issue had more content than could get into issue. What was bumped was not time sensitive.

Jim Millet asked if we can put in financial information for general members, and David reported it is in the January issue.

ACA/CCA Status:

David distributed copies of the 10-year old agreement we have had with Inland Empire Chapter, BMW CCA and Puget Sound Region, BMW ACA, witnessed and signed by the Pacific Zone Governor, BMW CCA. Roger will contact the President of Inland Empire to discuss this agreement, and solicit his thoughts on the issue we are dealing with.

Roger will introduce himself to Keith Wollenberg as our new President.

The committee will meet to review the articles for the next issue of Zundfolge. They will review the questions asked in the January issue. They need to finalize the procedure for voting. At a future meeting the Board will decide if they will make a recommendation to the membership on this issue.

Roger asked if anyone present wanted to join this committee, realizing the commitment involved, and two members agreed to join, Tom Cox and Jim Millet.

David asked the general members in attendance to express their opinion on this issue.

Jim Millet thought the first article in the magazine was biased to ACA. After reviewing the current issue he commented the articles looked more unbiased, and that they offered information he was seeking.

Doug Haussler agreed with Jim about the first article.

Roundabout:

Roger – relayed news article about project in England wanting to use car computers linked to satellites, which would control car’s gasoline if car were exceeding speed limit.

Bill – pass.

Lucetta – Port Ludlow wants to work with us to have an event at their facility. Saw a presentation by HomeGrocer.com and thought we may want to tie it in with another event to have their presentation sometime.

Chris – pass.

Evie – questioned changes in approving meeting minutes.

Lance – asked for help in distributing comp card displays.

Jill – pass.

Sandra – pass.

Doug – pass.

Greg – no contact with Microsoft people for Office 2000. Check compatibility for individuals to buy for their own use.

David – clear up fact that the club is not buying any software. These are for members to buy for themselves. Z8 is gorgeous. Must see it in person.

Dale – test-drove X5, impressed so much that he put a down payment on one! Fun truck.

Steve – asked Lucetta to update Board member e-mail addresses.

Joni – pass.

Bill – pass.

Wes – open invitation to anyone who wants to try NOVICE racing. Shared great police blotter story about "batman". Ask him.

Ken – collecting suits, helmets, gloves, and etc. so all can try racing. When we are old we can look back and remember that we did it! (Some of us are already old and looking back….)

Karl – Lori gave me NOMEX underwear for Christmas.

Rick – should we do a mystery gift? We would bid on it not knowing what it was. Agreed it was a good idea, during oral auction. Give it a monetary value.

Meeting adjourned about 9:45 PM
