October 6, 1005

 

The meeting was called to order by President Rick Gulstrom at 6:45pm at the Mercer Island Fire Station 91.

Presidents Report

 

·          National News, BMW CCA Membership Drive held in Dallas about the same as the last few years.

·          Last Month’s board minutes – any changes or additions? No

 

Treasurers Report – Marty

 

·          Marty provided a summary of the accounting spreadsheet. He cleaned up pre paid track charges with pacific raceway. Concours was profitable.


 

General Meeting and Non-track Event Calendar

 

Katrina Relief - Lance

Lance proposed donating to the Katrina Relief fund.   Lance made a motion to donate one month’s member’s dues to the Katrina Relief Fund. Seconded, Motion passed with a majority.

 

October 1 deadline for 2006 Board member nominations – status – David

All board position are filled with the exception of secretary.  There is going to be a concerted effort to find someone to fill this position in 2006. There will be an updated board of directors list published in the next issue of the Zundfolge magazine .

 

Hill brothers participating in 24 hour Daytona – any social event coming up to review?

No events.

 

Alpha club is hosting a sailing event, at pier 54, on October 12th to benefit seat time for Wes and Ken Hill for the 24 hour Daytona. It is $50 per person.  Need a sticky for bulletin board.

 

Membership incentive programs (BMW dealer presentations) Bremerton – Lynne

Lynne is going to talk to BMW northwest. Ask them if they would like to participate and or be a sponsor for the Novice Drivers Training Event at Bremerton.

 

Would club benefit from a New Member Orientation 3 times per year- Marty

Marty has brought 4 new BMW members into the club in the last month. We need a Venue in the south end.  Talked about setting up a members meeting at the Lakewood town center.  ? will be researching the viability of that option.

 

Upcoming Events:


Benchmark Audio tech session Oct 22 – Tom Cox

We have an event, we have a date, and we have 8 people pre-registered. Tom asked for someone to take this event over since he will not be available. Rick said he would take over the event. Brian Whitehead is the contact person. The event is from 10-12 on a Saturday. Tom will send out the email. Lynne offered to help Rick.

 

Hill climb in Oct 8th and 9th – Marty and Alan

Marty gave a run down on the proposed tour.  22 cars are signed up, 4 are coming from Enumclaw and several from Portland. Sounds like a fun event.

 

Jingle Bells Fun Run  December 11, 2005– de-Anna

Need 35 people to sign up in order to create custom t-shirts. The deadline for the shirts is November 14th. For more information talk to de-Anna Martin. Details of the event are available at

Oktoberfest October 6-9- Puyallup –Lance

Lance gave a rundown on Ooctoberfest. Lucetta is working the booth the evening before.  Open to the public at 11 AM. Price is $6.00. Parking is free. Suzanne will be there Saturday with t-shirts.

Good but small meeting 8 people, Martin gave a good presentation. $5.49 cost for the event.

No new information. No one to organize this event.

 

Leavenworth tour in the fall – Alan

No Leavenworth tour.

 

BMW Collectibles – Event December 10 – David

Location: Bellevue library: 12:30 – 5:00 PM.  Promotion for the event will be in the November/December Zundfolge magazine. Last event drew about 20 members.

 

Wine Tour – Ken Olsen / Alan to verify date

Not going to happen this year.

 

Foster Wheel and Tire – Jeff

Lucetta is going to go talk to them in the next couple of weeks.

 

Dinan Tech session with BMW Seattle – Jeff

Seattle BMW said they were interested but they haven’t replied. BMW Northwest might be interested. Car tender is still interested in hosting an event.  Jeff to talk to Alex at BMW Seattle.

 

Jon Shirley Museum Event, Feb 11, 2006 – David

No limits, no reservations people just need to show up.  Expecting 200 plus people. 2/3 different private car collections. Spinner warehouse.  We need to provide some form of security, promotion, directions, and treats. They are going to provide tables and linen covers. No photos. Need 8/10 volunteers. Meeting starts at 9 am, 10 - noon will be finished by 1 pm.

 

Track Events

 

General Business / financial status – Tom/Bill

 

Marty is going to write a check for $200 PRRCA race track for startup fees. Already had a motion two months ago.

 

Need a new PRRCA rep. – Tomt

Bill decided he really wants to retire so we need someone to step into his position.   Need someone who is very familiar with the track.  Walt wants to talk to tom and bill about it. Lynne would be a good person to take this over.

Pacific Raceway Fundraiser – Tom/Bill/Walt

Chief Instructor meeting – Bill/Walt Status

Hosted by national DEC. There were about 10/12 people on the teleconference call. Talked about incentives for instructors. Discussed accidents. There were 5/6 incidences in Pacific Rim states. Are there other things we can do to have less incidents? Walt has a cd of the three hour phone call.

 

Corner Workers (750$) – Lynn

Another $750 dollars is needed for corner workers. Incentive to get volunteers is that this benefits  Children’s hospital.  Motion made, seconded. Motion passed.

 

Off season instructor meeting – Walt

Walt has a couple of different options for the instructor appreciation event. He will do some research and get back to the board at the November meetings.

Upcoming Events: E36 Event – Martin?

Martin doesn’t want to do this anymore. We need to find someone who wants to host this. Maybe Kim Burgess? Someone will contact Kim and see if he is interested.

 

Last Saturday the E46 group got together. It was a good turnout. Dozen people or so and at least 5 M3’s.  Martin is going to ask one of the people who attended to write up an article for the Zundfolge.  Who is the contact person for this group?  Doug Mill keeps the roster. 40 people on the list.

 

2005-2006 Banquet de-Anna, David & Lance

 

Date will be January 21, 2006.


Need to make a motion to write a check to the
Design Center for $500.00. since de-Anna already has the check. Motion made, seconded and passed.

 

Update on speaker –

The speaker we were trying to secure didn’t’ work out. We are allocating one hour for the auction. Ken and Wes Hill have agreed to be our guest speakers. Talking to BMW Northwest about helping with the event, aka: sponsor.  Talked about design and color ideas.  De-Anna is working on the logo for the glasses.  What does the board think about theme wear?  Hawaii shirts? Yes, sounds like a great plan.

de-Anna circulated a spreadsheet outlining the cost of the meals.  The board recommendation will be $40/50 (early registration $40) (late registration $50). We have to have at least 147 people to break even that should not be a problem. Arthritis foundation has a tax exemption for the food service tax.   Arthritis foundation will help to provide donations. Lucetta is going to work with the arthritis foundation on donations. Schedule for soliciting donations? Next month.

Anything new for next years event? No new news.

 

Zündfolge

 

Lucetta deadline for 2005 issue – Tuesday for the combined issue. Oct. 11th

Lucetta thought the layout person would be back for this issue but she is delayed so they are performing the work via long distance. Lucetta must have everything by Tuesday.

 

Report on Stoneguard – they are out of business and they owe the magazine for ads. Jim is going to try to find them.

 

Bradley’s Detail – They want to place ad’s but they still owe us for past ads. They want to come back and pre pay each month. 

 

Jim is gong to make phone calls to the 60 day past due accounts. Jim and Lucetta to talk off line.

Roster/Membership – Lynne / Louis

 

BMW is down 250 members nationally. Do not know the local numbers. As far as we know the  membership numbers have been staying the same for last 6 months.

The next Board Meeting will be held on Thursday November 3rd, 2005 at the Mercer Island Fire Station 91.  This meeting will start at 6:45 p.m.  

Marty will bring the food.

 

Roundabout

·          Jeff went to Oxnard, California at the end of August for BMW training.  He toured the facility and went through the body shop.  450 BMW’s go through the facility every day.  He is going to write up an article for the Zundfolge

·          Marty went to California to pick up his new E46 M3. His 7th black BMW.

·          Dean anyone know any good auto body shops?

·          David Board meetings are too detailed for this level of a board. Would like to discuss this at the next board meeting.  Would like the board to consider changing the board meetings to coincide with the deadline for the Zundfolge magazine. It would be nice to have the board meetings a week or so before the deadline for the magazine. 

·          Walt Bill got champion for year end pro three.  Walt turned 50 last week.

·          Lance for the donation for the race car lance will write it up for the magazine.  Article for the January magazine.

·          Lucetta Drove to Sun River for the exotic car show. Porsche and BMW. Dealers brought out the Porsches. Seriously going cca. In communication with Lucetta. 

·          Lynn Seattle international auto show first night for charity. November 2nd, 7-10 pm QWEST field event center. Benefits Jr. Achievement of Washington.
