BMW CCA Puget Sound Board Meeting

November 13, 2003, MICC

President Tom Cox called the meeting to order at 7:00

Multi-marque Concours Wrap-up

Al Lanng thanks the Club for our support.  The event went very well, considering it was the first year.  A profit-and-loss sheet was presented..  In brief - $6367.60 was raised.  Expenses totalled $4112.14, so $2255.46 was donated to DECA.  A thank-you letter from Washington DECA was passed also around.  The date is already set for the next one – Sept 11, 2004, at the Ste. Michelle Winery again.  Al requested our continued involvement next year.  We commend Al on an excellent event, especially considering it was the first one.

Presidents Report

News from National:

·         Octoberfest was held in Austin.  453 people attended.  13 cars were given away, none to NW members.

·         Annual dues will increase in June to $40.00 a year.

·         The National Capital Chapter will host Tech Fest in March 2004

Letter from Eddy Funahashi,  CCA Pacific Region VP:

·         2004 O’fest will be in July, hosted by the LA Chapter, in Pasadena

·         Street Survival had a successful first year.  Dean Killian will retire as Director.  No successor has been named yet.

·         Despite the Iowa Chapter’s best efforts, web sales of Club-related items have been very slow.  They are considering pulling the plug.

Treasurers Report:  In David’s absence, Tom Cox gave a brief synopsis.  We have about $47,000 cash.  The track program is on track to break even for the year, thanks to a profitable last two events.

Past Events

Muckelstone Tech: 70 people came; it was a full house.  Seems to have attracted some new faces.

Video Night: 40 people in attendance, all went well.

Upcoming Events

Workers Appreciation meeting: It’s set to go for Dec. 3rd at Red Hook Brewery.  Tom Cox will contact Lynn Eskill to check on how the plan is proceeding.

Women’s Tech, 11/22: Lucetta and her team will meet with Car Tender next week to finalize plans.  About 20 reservations so far.

Collectibles Jumble: At MICC Dec 6, proceeding as planned.  Ken Hill promises lots of Jeep models.

Tours/Rallies:

Wine Tour went very well.  Good weather, great wineries involved.

Fall Rally happened last weekend, no report.

Track:

Bill Spornitz has been nominated the new Driving Events Coordinator.  His first official act was to set up a Driving Events Committee.  Walt Conely will continue on as Chief Driving Instructor.  Ken Hill will act Track Steward.  David Lightfoot, Louis HvD, Jamie Thomas, Joni Candey, and Tom Olsson will also serve on this Committee.  Their first meeting is scheduled for next week on the 19th.

·         Bremerton Novice School, 10/26: went very well, about 60 students.  Due to Louis’s excellent timing abilities, we were able to allow the Novices to experience the full track.  This was very well received, but it was agreed to prep the Students more for the experience if we continue to do that.  Walt thanks Tom Cox for his efforts with the collision avoidance lights.  It is very much improved over the old system.

·         Laguna Seca, 11/4:  Another great trip, thanks to the tireless efforts of Ken and Cecilia Hill.  The event was full with 55 people participating.

·         A tentative 2004 schedule was announced: 2/28 (PR) - Instructor training day, 3/13 (Brem) and 3/20 (PR) for Novice Skills Days, 6/6, 6/25(Friday), and 8/29 at PR for Driver’s Skills, 10/16 (Brem) for Novice Skills, and 10/30 at Portland

·         Tentative partner Club dates – IEC at SRP: 3/27-28, 6/13-14, 10/16-17.  Porsche Club at PR:  6/4, 7/17, 8/27, 10/25, Alfa Club at PR: 7/11

SIG Events:

Marty Hovenkotter reported on his first E36 picnic.  The event went well, despite the weather.  25 cars came.  Unfortunately, due to lower than expected turn-out, the event operated at a loss for the E36 SIG.  Marty vows to do better next time.  There will be an E36 mini Tech Session in Marty’s garage this weekend.

Matthew Mar reported that the Seattle 7’s had a meeting last weekend at the Starbuck’s Headquarters.  Coffee for everyone!  He introduced Matthew Atkins, who is the Vice President of the newly formed E39 SIG, the Seattle 5’s.  Please visit their website at www.seattle5s.com for more information.

Banquet:  Promo is in the current Zündfolge.  Procurement of donations is going well.

Concours: Lance is contemplating making the event start in the afternoon, giving people more day-of prep time.  This would also make the event coincide better with the rest of the River Days activities.

Zündfolge: Deadline for the January issue is Nov. 25th.  Jim Millet is working hard on some prospective new advertisers.

Roster / Membership: 3400 members in the local Chapter.  74,000 total members nationally.  Up 200 last month.

Web Site: Good reception for new Bulletin Board.  Dale will remove old event dates from the calendar page to avoid confusion in 2004.

Nominating Committee: Nominations were published in the current Zündfolge.  None of the positions are opposed.

Next Board Meeting: MICC December 4th. Marty Hovenkotter will provide the food.  Thanks Marty!

Roundabout:

Tom Olsson – looking rather hard at the new PP330, had decided that Imola red is the color for him.

Walt – Sundeck ad he worked on appeared in the Seattle Times.  The ad has been nominated for an award.

Don Robesch – had fun at Laguna Seca; thanks Ken for his excellent Instruction

Ken Hill – reports that the Pro-3 racing class will remain the same for 2004; no rule changes have been allowed.  He’s also planning to repaint the race car in the off-season.

Doug – invited to the new 5 launch at BMW NW.  Reports they did a great job.

Matthew Atkins – this was his first Board Meeting.  Welcome Matthew!

deAnna – went to the Car Show last weekend.  Dane really wants a Lotus Elise.

Lance – had a great time at Laguna, after he quit worrying about his engine blowing up.  Thanks Ken for bringing the trailer!

Rick – Got hit again, only 5 days out of the body shop.  The horror!  Jeff Butler and he are becoming fast friends.

Marty – Did his first driving school with the IEC.  Found out that first tech inspection is always painful.

Tom Cox – has had a few nibbles on the M6, but nothing serious yet.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tom Olsson, substituting for Ken Olsen
