Factory Options
- All 2 of them ... Sunroof and CD
Modifications
- Magnetic Stone Guards - http://www.z3solution.com. Nice cosmetic protection for rear fender flares.
- Gary's ///Mirror Adapter - http://z3mirrors.com with compact mirror. This solves the blind spot created by the large and too low oval stock mirror. Highly recommended!
- LeatherZ armrest - http://www.leatherz.com. Jon Maddox does a beautiful job on these and has more than one style to choose from. Nice addition to the Z3 console.
- Brake upgrades - My only performance upgrade is to the brakes. This includes: Motul 600 brake fluid, Goodridge braided stainless lines, Euro "Floating Rotors" slotted and cryogenically treated, Performance Friction "Z-rated" pads for street. For track use, I use Performance Friction PF-97's pads and a Cool-It ram-air ducting from Bimmerworld to the front rotors. See this kit at http://www.bimmerworld.com.
- Tires - Recently replaced the original Dunlop 8080E (39,000 mostly commuting miles!) with Bridgestone S-03's, 235/45x17 up front, 265/40x17 in back. For track use, I'm currently using Toyo RA-1's, (front) 235/40x17 and (rear) 255/40x17.
- UUC Transmission Mount Enforcers (TME) - They reduce torque induced transmission movement. See them at: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/tranny_mount/html_tranny/description.htm.
- Luggage net in trunk - Great for holding the pizzas while pulling .9 Gs coming home from Pizza Hut.
- NOAH custom fit car cover.
- McGard wheel locks, p/n 27178.
Future Upgrades
Who knows? The car is such a joy to drive "as is", whether doing my daily commute or experiencing its limits on a road course. I've often considered replacing my S52 (240 hp) Coupe with a low-miles S54 (315 hp) someday. If not, it's tempting to go forced induction. As I always have said, "Horsepower - More is not enough. Too much is just right!"
Why the Coupe?
Being a Chevy guy (I also own a show '57 Bel Air 2-dr "Post"), friends always ask why I bought an "///M coupe" instead of a new C5 Corvette. And I always say " ... 'cuz I wanted something different!" The Coupe was definitely the right choice. I've finally gotten used to the attention it draws, after owning it for almost 4 years. It turns many more heads than if I were driving a "see-'em-everywhere-Corvette". With only 2600 of the US ///M coupes produced from 1999 thru 2002, only the true sports car enthusiast really knows what they are. For these reasons, I bought the Coupe, and have been pinching myself in disbelief ever since I drove it off that showroom floor on May 12th, 1999!
