Shown above is my "new" '99 E36/8 Z3 Coupe I purchased in January '02 from a "Classic Car" dealer in Salem, OR. It had less than 15,000 miles on it and is in very good condition - the black paint hasn't had much TLC, but I am working on that. The Z3 is totally stock and bound to stay that way for a while, I think. It's performance is just fine and I like the way it looks with all original everything.

It is a pleasure to drive and it's a great touring car. My wife and I took a trip in it to the Bay area in February to visit our daughter and had a wonderful trip through the Cascades in Northern CA to Lake Tahoe and then to Point Reyes National Seashore north of S.F. We stayed in a nice place called Motel Inverness - the area in Marin County does remind one of Scotland with rolling green hills of pasture with areas of little oak tree groves. But to remind us we were in CA, we learned that the San Andreas fault was less than a quarter mile away. The local story is that the land shifted 20 feet on either side of the fault during the big one in 1906.

My first Bimmer was a '68 1600-2 purchased new on the occasion of my graduation from the University of Portland with a degree in engineering. I really appreciated the 'fine German engineering' that car possessed back then!! Guess that today many of us think they are sort of crude, but they were amazing in their day. I sold it to buy an 'exciting' new Japanese machine in 1970 - a Mazda! I have had many Japanese and European vehicles since then, but have always kept my eyes on fine German machinery.

I just returned to the Bimmer fold last March ('01) when my brother and I purchased an '89 325i 2-Dr for my pleasure and our mutual driver education. For some reason, he just couldn't bring himself to take his brand new '01 Imola Red M5 out on the track. Many members have seen our clean Cinnabar Red machine at Bremerton, SIR and PIR for a few of last year's track events. And it will be returning this year, but I hope to get my wife to agree to let me take our new black beauty to the track. So far, she says 'No.' She likes it more than I do, I think!!
