This commutermobile replaced a 2003 Suzuki Savage that was totalled by a red-light runner. Like the Savage, it is a light and manuverable 650cc thumper. Unlike the Savage, bore exceeds stroke, and it has the aforementioned amenitites (heated grips and ABS are particularly nice when riding in Seattle in the winter). With a 4-gallon gas tank under the seat, the center of gravity is extremely low, making this an astonishingly nimble bike. The 2-spark injection is new to the 2005 F650GS, and addresses surging issues with the first try at fuel injection.

I owned a 1999 F650, and the previous generation of this bike, although fun and solid, was heavy and ungainly. With a lower frame and over 100lbs dropped, this generation of F650GS is kind to smaller folk, and is a hoot to ride.

If you ever want a new beemer, go to Ride West and ask for Ellen. Her sales technique is "Here are the keys. Take as long as you want."
